The USS Silver Fox, NX-35746, is a prototype. It's the bow of and Akira and the Stern of a Centaur class ship. It is heavily equipped with 6 torpedo bays, 8 phasers banks, and upgraded shielding. It was constructed when the USS Harltson, an Akira class, and the USS Simonson, a Centaur class, were disabled in a battle with to Jem�hadar. Its has 35 decks, 150 miles long. It has a crew complement of 350 and the evacuation limit is 4,500 people. The bow and stern were still intact so starfleet decided to build a hybrid. They thought that it would be prudent if it was equipped with more weapons then a normally star ship would have due to the fact that they were at war. As a warship the craft extremely well equipped carrying nearly 400 Quantum, 600 Photon and 12 Tri-Cobalt Torpedoes. It is fitted with the new Type XII Phaser array and is highly maneuverable. Its is mainly used to transport cargo in war zone areas because it has very large cargo bays. It is used to transport marines as well. Its last commanding officer was killed along with most of her crew in a recent battle with the Jem�hadar. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

The Akira Class of Starship is one of the new breed of Post Wolf 359 ships. Much like the Galaxy and Nebula Class it is a multi mission starship capable of transport, deep space assignments and combat missions. Originally designed and ordered in the early 2350's the project was part of Starfleet cut backs and was officially put on hold as the more universal Galaxy Class project which spawned several varients, proved to Starfleet command to be the modular Design. The Five space frames that were underway at Utopia Planitia's orbital facility were towed to the Saturn Storage zone and left until further notice. The Akira Class takes the modular Design to the limit featuring interchangeable modules that can be fitted within a matter of hours at a Starbase Facility which keeps a standard 10 modules ready to be fitted to each vessel. The Akira class is in fact superior to the Nebula Class, however thanks to the Univeral nature of the Nebula Class the Akira was official put on hold. This proved to be a major advantage when the project became active again as all of the latest Federation Technology was used in the construction of the ships. As a warship the craft extremely well equipped carrying nearly 400 Quantum, 600 Photon and 12 Tri-Cobalt Torpedoes. It is fitted with the new Type XII Phaser array and is highly maneuverable. The ship features an unusual mixture of designs such as the standard federation saucer, however one of the more unusual features in the dual secondary hull shaped like a catamaran. The modular 'rollover' bar is normally the Primary weapons module on the Akira class, however the ship does have three Torpedo launchers which are available. Production Base: ASDB Intergration Facility, Antaries Fleet Yards, Antaries IV. Type: Heavy Cruiser. Accommodation: 500 officers and crew, 4,500 personal evacuation limit. Power Plant: One 1,500 plus Cochrane warp core feeding two nacelles; One impulse system. Dimensions: Length, 464.43 meters; width, 316.67 meters; height, 87.43 meters. Mass: 3,055,000 metric tones. | A Centaur class ship | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Centaur Class of starship began as a Miranda Class development which later progressed into its own class. The original brief for the ship was for an uprated Miranda Class ship to possibly replace the Miranda Class as the mid-range multi purpose starship of the fleet. The Designers felt that using existing components from classes such as the Miranda, the developmental Ambassador and the Excelsior would be an excellent way forward and began work. The end result used in the major part Miranda and Excelsior chassis components with advanced material from the Ambassador, such as the warp drive, computer systems, and IPS systems. Initial testing proved the ship to fast and agile which eventually lead to its major usage as a mid-range scout ship. One of the first ships in the fleet to use a modular approach to design and retrofitting it laid out the path for its larger predecessors, the Akira Class and Nebula Class. After nearly 15 years of production though the class was discontinued after its mission limitations were found. Due to its odd hybrid nature it seemed to use masses of fuel, much unlike either the Excelsior or the Ambassador, where the majority of its components came from. Warp theorists termed the problem as 'a sincere problem with warp field rupture at velocities over warp 7.2 and interial subspace fields around the ship cause a 'dinting' of the bubble which leads to exponential energy consumption as warp speed increase'. The simple fact was the nacelles were too long creating an extended warp field which lead to a tensor wave to begin ossilating at speeds above warp 7.2. It had been noted by some ships that above warp 8.2 the engines had a terrible habit of stalling completely. During the year 2358 the USS Gala was destroyed while studying a quantum singularity due to interference affecting the subspace warp field when jumping to warp. No lives were lost in the incident, however the ships black box revealed that the destruction of the ship was caused by a subspace inversion occurring within the warpcore leading to a breach. With more efficient ships under construction at the time it was decided to call back all Centaur class ships for retrofitting using the latest technology. A total of 36 Centaur class ships spent nearly 4 years in space dock having their warp drives and computer systems overhauled. Initial testing proved that the problems with the warp drive were cured. As a safety precaution though, the ships were restricted to speeds not over warp 8.1. In more recent year the problems have been cured altogether thanks to the developmental work done on the sovereign class of ship. |
